Reinženýring procesů

What does BPR stand for?

The term BPR ( Business Process Reengineering) is used in relation to management and computer science. It defines a process, which aims to increase the effectiveness of business processes within an organization or among organizations. This process is alternatively also called BPR “Business Process Redesign”, “Business Transformation” or “Business Process Change Management”.

BPR targets

The term BPR is very often closely linked with information technologies. However, this is only an indirect connection. The primary target for organization management is not to “use tools for computerization” but to eliminate valueless activities. And exactly this elimination is the core of BPR. When optimizing the functioning of an organization, the management should not focus only on side problems, such as technology – information technology in particular, that were used for computerization, but more importantly, on processes themselves.

It is a general notion in the field of information technologies that application faults cannot be eliminated through infrastructure investments, mainly HW. There is an analogical rule of BPR. If the used business processes are not the correct ones, the ICT infrastructure cannot function effectively. BPR helps the managers improve the functioning of the organization not through infrastructure investments, but through better processes.

The reason, why BPR is so often linked with ICT, is mainly the fact that the development in the ICT, for instance in the area of internet technology, allows for an introduction of new business processes or optimization of current processes based on newly available technologies.

BPR Methodology

The bases for BPR is looking at the business processes from an independent perspective in order to find out, how to most effectively improve these processes so they serve their purpose.
